Light-Trapping Enhancement by Diffractive Textures for Thin-Film Silicon Solar Cells
 
Abstract/Summary:
 
In this work the growth of thin film silicon solar cells on 2D gratings is studied in order to explore the benefits of using diffractive textures. The TCO growth on 2D grating samples is therefore investigated as a function of ZnO:Al thickness and compared with the growth on bare glass (flat reference). The samples were evaluated on their light-trapping ability and compared with Asahi U-type TCO which acts as a reference with random texture. The thin-film stack configurations of samples that showed the highest light-trapping ability were used for amorphous silicon solar cell processing and it was demonstrated that using 2D textured glass in combination with an optimized front TCO surpasses the performance of the random textured Asahi reference.
