Abstract/Summary:


In this paper we would like to describe constitutive characteristics of a photovoltaic generator conceived for being fully integrated in a building (BIPV-generator) also showing how it can be endowed by an unconventional and innovative "under-glass" mono-axial solar tracker. The semi-transparency special feature of our proposed BIPV-generator will be also underlined and valorized from the energy and architectural point of views. Some deepening about very low installation and maintenance costs of our BIPV-generator will be also given and the high reliability of its unconventional "under-glass" and mono-axial solar tracker will be underlined. Finally, we would like also to present and discuss the results of some first experimental measurements operated on a small-power prototype also introducing future tests to be performed on an additional prototype we are building "ad hoc" for performing “long-time” comparative tests among: (i) the on-field performances of the proposed BIPV-generator, (ii) the on-field performances of a conventional PV-generator built on the basis of the same quantity of PV-cells, with no solar-tracker and (iii) the on-field performances of a conventional PV-generator built on the basis of the maximum quantity of PV-cells which fully cover the available surface exposed to the sunlight (with no solar-tracker).
