Abstract/Summary:


Light trapping and the broadband absorption of the solar radiation are important to various energy harvesting applications. Broadband absorption enhancement was demonstrated with arrays of free-floating silicon light funnels (LF). In the following we use finite-difference time-domain electromagnetic calculations to examine the optical response of the substrate-LF array complexes. We show that the presence the LF arrays on top of an underlying substrates can induce, on top of the strong excitations of the arrays, strong excitations of optical modes in the substrates.
