Abstract/Summary:


Tracking photovoltaic (PV) can increase annual electricity and monitoring its tracking accuracy is vital to the performance of PV system. We have developed a technique using a high-resolution CCD and a low-cost webcam with CMOS sensor for monitor the outdoor performance on a two-axis PV system. This study is to assess the image quality from both sensors and their characteristics on monitoring offsets of sun-tracking. The CCD apparatus have shown it is capable of providing reliable sun-tracking measurement while the field test with webcam delivered similar performance as that of CCD but inferior of capturing clear image in low irradiation. Comparison of both apparatus was made to assess the relative merits (cost and performance) for sun-tracking.
