The degree of cross-linking of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foils is an important quality criterion for laminated PV cells. A method is proposed that acoustically measures cross-linking in ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foils. This technique is both faster and cheaper than existing techniques and, most importantly, it is non-destructive. It has been shown elsewhere that cross-linking is highly correlated with lamination time. We use lamination time as a reference measurement against which we can assess the proposed technique. Seven laboratory samples were tested and the results of the lamination time and the proposed technique were found to be correlated (R²=0.93). Therefore, we conclude that the proposed technique offers a cheap online alternative to current Soxhlet testing techniques.
