Abstract/Summary:

The series resistance of a solar cell is an important cell parameter as it represents one major source of electrical losses. In this work, an approach to determine the series resistance as a function of the external current and the generated photo-current is presented that does not depend on the current-voltage-characteristics of the internal diode. Thus it is applicable to solar cells even if a description by means of a one- or two-diode model is not possible. Since this approach relies on the measurement of numerous current-voltage curves at varying illuminations an implementation using an LED-based solar simulator is favorable. Our investigations on different solar cell technologies revealed substantial differences of the dependence of the series resistance on the external current and the generated photo-current.
