Currently around 30% of the overall cost of central tower solar plants corresponds to the solar field, therefore the need to reduce these costs in order to impact LCOE for CSP plants is obvious. For that innovative PV based solutions providing autonomous source of energy for managing solar field can be beneficial. Eurostars project PHOTON is aiming to improve performance/cost ratio for CSP plants is utilizing several innovations to by implementing a new concept of solar field and the optimization of the solar plant. The approach involves several innovative improvements within the whole system: - Removal of foundations for heliostat installation; - Powered by photovoltaic energy; - Communicated by wireless configuration, removing ditches and wiring costs; - Reflector Integrated with PV and Sensors; - Auto-calibration technology, reducing commissioning and calibration costs; - Increased efficiency solar receiver; - Smart sensors incorporated in the new heliostat concept; - Smart wireless control of the solar field to avoid high cost of cabling.
