Abstract/Summary:


High energy yield and aesthetics are two of the mostimportant aspects in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV)applications. However, theimprovement of one of these two often come at the expenses of the other.With the goal of maximizing both aspects, TNO collaborates with Wallvisiontooptimizethe development of a zigzag-structured façademade of all PV-active elements. The up-facing elementsof the ZigZag system, which stay out of sight when standing atground level,are made of standard PVmodulesand are those thatcontribute mostlyto the energy production. On the other hand,the down-facing elements, seen from the pedestrians, are made of coloredPVandprovidethe system with an aesthetically pleasing look while still contributing to the overall energy yieldof the façade.
