Abstract/Summary:

As the shingled module architecture is becoming more widespread and production volumes are increasing, the issue of string breakage and rework is becoming more valuable. In this work, we demonstrate and compare two simple strategies for the rapid rework of broken shingle strings that could be applied in the case when the breakage occurs before lamination. Both strategies are based on the use of conductive patches that are applied to the rear of strings in the area of the damaged cell. One of the strategies is shown to cause losses that are significantly higher than the fractional area loss of the damaged shingle stripe whereas the other is shown to yield only very minor losses.
