Abstract/Summary:


In recent years, the costs for electricity produced by PV have fallen below electricity prices of households and grid parity has been reached. Feed-in laws force plant owners to reduce PV peak power and increase self-consumption. To ensure the economically efficient operation of PV systems self-consumption, load management and local storage is vital. Thermal storage combined with a thermal-electrical heating system can be used to reduce peaks of PV feed-in power and realize a low-cost management system. In this paper, different operation modes of an oil-fired boiler with an electrical heating rod are introduced and the benefits of an optimized operation mode are evaluated. With a predictive electric thermal operation it is possible to avoid the shutdown of PV while maximizing self-consumption.
