Abstract/Summary:


This paper analyzes qualitatively the effect that occurs in a photovoltaic device (PV) with electrical mismatch losses. Mathematical models of PV cells are used by means of an open source simulation tool for electronic circuits able to simulate the electrical performance of PV modules and arrays both under normal generation as well as under electrical mismatch conditions. Bypass diodes can be included easily in the code. The precision obtained in the results is determined comparing experimental and simulated I-V curves obtained with the proposed model. As a result the model helps to understand what happens to a defective cell responsible for producing mismatch losses within a PV system as compared with other cells and links this effect to that produced by partial shading of a cell a PV module. It is worth mentioning that this approach helps to establish what happens in a photovoltaic array under mismatch losses conditions.
