With increasing cost pressure on all components of PV system increasing the DC/AC ratio is one possible way to decrease specific inverter costs. To find the break even it is essential to know losses due to power and current limitation depending on the DC/AC ratio. Thence simulation software is used for comparative analyses. This study aims to analyse standard software tools in regard to the quality of the simulation of inverter losses in general and overload losses in particular. It may be seen that mainly due to the simulation time step the uncertainty clearly increases with higher DC/AC ratios. Further climatic conditions have a major impact on the simulation quality.
