Abstract/Summary:

It is well-known that the location and mounting situation (orientation, inclination and type of integration) of the photovoltaic (PV) systems highly influence their performance. The performance modelling with several models and different approaches have been widely studied in the PV research community. However, in most models the energy Yield and Performance Ratio is calculated from in-situ-monitoring data or satellite-based data. In this paper, we evaluate and validate a climate-related global PV performance modelling methodology (see Annex 1), where the energy yield is calculated from monthly data applied to sequences of statistical and physical models (such as, clear-sky modelling, transposition of irradiance models, module temperature and performance modelling) and related with the Köppen- Geiger-Photovoltaic climate classification (KGPV) that we recently developed and will be presented at the WCPEC-7 in June 2018 [1]. The purpose is to identify the optimal locations, mounting situation and PV technologies for a selected region.
