The coupling of PV generators and heat pump (HP) units permits to supply the increasing heating/cooling demand with an efficient, renewable and environmentally friendly technology. This work presents the validation results of a technical solution for a stand-alone PV-HP prototype without batteries. The lack of batteries offers economic advantages but sets the additional problem of managing the solar power fluctuations due to cloudpassing. The cloud-passing algorithm implemented in this work was able to avoid the abrupt stop of the system for 75% of the cloud-passing events registered. For the performance assessment, a combination of traditional and new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is proposed. The PR ranged from 0.16 to 0.54, the low values explained by the utilization ratios of the system (UREF ranged from 0.25 to 0.77). The PV system and HP unit good performance is reflected on the PV,STC (between 0.84 and 0.96) and on the SPF (between 2.49 and 3.26).
