Development of renewable energy sources is an extremely important strategic direction of future energetics in any country throughout the world. Acceleration of their development is currently essential to provide both energy security of the peripheral regions cut off the centralized power supply and reliable groundwork and modernization of national energetics innovative development for future generations. The paper reports on the results of theoretical and experimental research into autonomous lighting systems (ALS) powered by 5kW hybrid wind-solar unit (WSU) 5 kW conducted in Russia (Tomsk) over the period 2008 – 2012. Testing over 5 years and a large amount of theoretical studies enabled us to develop a precise model of the ALS powered by WSU in real-life environment under different climatic conditions of the region.
