Abstract/Summary:


Based on the experience of PV inverter components, the lab infrastructure which is required to perform reproducible, valid tests is presented in this contribution. The need of the PV inverter industry to characterize of large-scale PV inverters (central inverters) on a suitable test bench exists, the concept of a large scale test bench in introduced and explained in detail. The fact that large-scale integration of MW solar plants leads to an increasing level of distributed power generation, pushing many distribution networks to their limits. One promising way to make the energy systems fit for the future is the use of smart grids, which enable intelligent energy management through bidirectional communication and coordination between generators, consumers and storage units. This laboratory infrastructure is developed to match the required testing facilities (accredited standardization testing [1][2][3][4][5], R&D works, prototype test bench, etc.) and the potential for supporting the PV inverter manufacturing industry is demonstrated with the help of some examples and experiments.
