Abstract/Summary:

Photovoltaic systems are quickly approaching grid-parity in countries with high irradiation levels and high electricity prices. Grid-parity has to be studied separately for the residential, commercial/industrial and the utility market segments. The utility or medium to large scale electricity generation market segment is characterized by specific requirements. PV installations offer unique benefits which can be quantified when studying electricity demand peak-load profiles in particular. The analysis shows how PV systems can be deployed maximizing the economic value of PV generated electricity, namely by installing tracking PV systems, which in Rome (Lazio) provide approx. 7.6% more value per kWh generated, than conventional fixed-tilt systems.
