Abstract/Summary:


Silicon nanowire thin film solar cells with axial pn-junctions on glass substrates were prepared by two methods. In a bottom up approach the nanowires were grown by the VLS method on a silicon thin film on glass using Au nanotemplates. In a top down method silicon thin films with an appropriate doping profile were etched in a selforganized way so that nanowires form. For comparison cells were prepared by both methods on Si wafers. Resulting I-V-curves of the solar cells are discussed. The highest achieved Voc under AM1.5 illumination was 400 mV in a cell etched into a silicon thin film.
