Abstract/Summary:


Crystalline silicon thin-film solar cells were fabricated on different types of graphite or SiC ceramic substrates. The high temperature compatibility of the substrates allow for application of zone melting recrystallisation for grain enlargement. Conversion efficiencies of up to 5.3% were obtained on SiC and 11.1% on graphite substrates on an area of 1.65 cm2. Characterization results showed a high spatial variation of effective minority carrier lifetimes.
