Abstract/Summary:


In 1995 the Cabildo Insular of Tenerife and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Energías Renovables (ITER) as promoters, and the Architectural Association of the Canary Islands (COAC) as organizer; summoned an International Contest of drafts, which was approved by the International Union of Architects (U.I.A). The aim of the contest was to select 25 proposals of dwellings that were designed under the premise of the highest bioclimatic use, which would integrated an urbanization situated at the Technological Park lands in Granadilla, Tenerife. As a result of the contest, about 400 projects of architect from 38 different countries took part, among those where chose the 25 that are currently bioclimatic urbanization to which we refer. The main objective of the project is finding strategies that allow achieving sustainable solutions to the energy problem in buildings. The solutions presented by each bioclimatic design of the dwellings open new ways to get the maximum integration of renewable energy systems in habitable structures.
