Abstract/Summary:

La Silla plant is a 1.7 MW innovative PV power plant installed in 2016 by Enel Green Power (EGP) in Chile, where two cutting-edge solar module technologies (bifacial and smart modules) are tested and compared with traditional ones at utility scale level. The PV plant has the double purpose to test innovative technologies in real operating conditions of utility-scale PV plants, and meanwhile to produce energy and have revenues from this production. The side-by-side testing of the smart and bifacial modules with conventional panels allows comparing their performance with that of the conventional panels in the same site. The analysis of the data of each subfield showed that bifacial subfield performs better than the standard one with a gain of about 12%, while the smart subfield at the year one shows only a gain of about 1%. The test confirms the potentialities of the solutions, that can be further investigated both for installation in EGP PV plants and for R&D development of 3SUN factory.
