Abstract/Summary:


A consortium led by Witteveen+Bos will test a novel HBr redox-flow-battery for grid integration of PV and other renewable energy sources. Testing will take place at the communal yard of the municipality of Noordoostpolder, in Emmeloord (NL). Elestor has developed a pilot battery, based on own stack- and system design, together with belonging safety measures. Starting May 2019, the battery will be tested for a duration of 6-12 months at a demonstration site with 113 kWp commercial PV panels. The tests will include automated load/unload scenarios for several use cases. Also, battery performance characteristics will be determined, such as peak power, energy capacity and efficiency. Together with stakeholders and neighbours we will evaluate the attractiveness of the battery for grid integration of solar PV. Further upscaling of the HBr battery is already under planning for other locations.
