Abstract/Summary:

To reduce greenhouse gas emissions for rural regions in Germany, the share of renewable energy must increase within the next years. For this purpose, we developed the energy model simulation software UCB SEnMod (UCB Sector Coupling Energy Model), which simulates an energy system with 100 % renewable energy. Hourly values represent the demand for heat, electricity, and the traffic sector, as well as the production applications, wind energy, photovoltaics, hydropower, bioenergy, and solar thermal energy. Because of the fluctuations in the generation of electric power, a storage system is included. The simulation software SEnMod links the energy generation, energy consumption, and energy storage devices to cover the energy demand by energy production. Surplus or shortfall of the demand is compensated by trading between the regions.
