Abstract/Summary:


Quality management is critical to maintain the profitability of PV assets throughout their lifetime. Quality is considered at different stages throughout the lifetime of any project, but unfortunately somewhat disconnected at the various handover points. The paper compares the current approach in quality management by the PV industry with that approach taken by other industries, identifying some obvious differences. In a comparison to the building industry it is argued that introducing changes, e.g. by having to remedy quality issues, on the whole will increase the price of the design. An approach of considering quality at the outset of a project is discussed that aims to reduce the overall costs and minimize unnecessary interventions throughout the lifetime.
