Abstract/Summary:

The solar arrays of spacecrafts are subjected to high radiative environment. Associated degradation rates are dependent on operational orbit configuration, and from a radiation effects point of view the new Electrical Orbit Raising (EOR) transfer orbits present a higher risk. The current models and tools approach to determine power degradation shall thus be validated to ensure good prediction accuracy. This paper reports on extensive irradiation test campaigns realized on triple junction solar cells in order to compare degradation induced by different configurations of the same displacement damage dose (DDD) in the active layer. Results are conclusive regarding the equivalence of degradation obtained with electrons and/or protons and accounting for local shielding.
