Abstract/Summary:

We have tested in the Atacama Desert for more than two years Heterojunction bifacial PV modules specially developed for high-irradiation regions, the ATAMO PV technology. The ATAMO PV technology has shown better performance than the market references monofacial and bifacial PERC. We present for the first time in-depth performance analysis of bifacial ntype and p-type technologies for vertical, fix-tilt and single-axys-tracking-system in Desert conditions. These results show that the initial aim of ATAMOSTEC was correct and defines the path for the next generation ATAMO technologies. We search for the materials that will increase the performance, durability and reliability of Heterojunction PV technologies for high-irradiance, desert applications. We have worked for more than two years on developing a indoor characterization methodology that emulates the Atacama Desert, and we have achieved promising results.
