Abstract/Summary:


Quantum efficiency is modeled as a product of collection efficiency, absorptance at ray-path angle with respect to the surface normal equal to 0°, and a factor accounting for a possible absorption enhancement due to diffusion of internal light alone. This modeling allows deriving an expression for an «apparent» absorption coefficient that only accounts for the possible absorption enhancement that does not depend on diffusion of internal light. By exploiting the numerical simulation program PC1d, the formula is successfully checked in two actual n+pp+ Si solar cells.
